I hung up my helmet and traded in my fire suit all for good reason. I walked the runway in the LiveGirl + Hadley Pollet Fashion Show which took place at the Carriage Barn Arts Center in New Canaan, CT. The Fashion show was a fundraiser for the non-profit organization LiveGirl and featured the fashion designs of local designer Hadley Pollet. LiveGirl’s mission is to empower young girls and women through development and mentoring, building self-confidence and fostering diversity. Believe it or not, walking the runway is just like a trip down the drag strip at 300MPH. The same thoughts ran through my head while walking the runway as they do making a pass in the Queen of Diamonds. Can I see the end of the runway? Being aware of the other women coming down the runway as you’re walking up, and then when it’s all over I thought to myself after three outfit changes and three struts, that was fast – this is just like a 5 second pass!

There really wasn’t a thought in my mind that we would actually race Saturday, May 19th at Summit Motorsports Park’s 12th Annual Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser. The reality was, from the beginning of the week, to the day of – radars across the map were calling for rain. Saturday the clouds & sun were playing hide n’ seek with us all day giving us moments of hope with sunshine followed up by a big black cloud that dumped buckets of rain on us, luckily I  had my bright orange crocs ready!

It was a big weekend for our Hanna Motorsports team, not only was it our first race all together to kick of the 2018 season, but we also debuted our two new sponsors this year. Jet Hot High-Performance Coatings came on board with us this year & we are turning up the heat for sure! They have hooked the Queen of Diamonds II up with a beautiful newly coated pipe. Three new shinny red boxes filled with tools are a new addition thanks to Teng Tools USA who have also come on board with us this year!

After two down pours, we finally got to make our first run around 7PM. The QOD beat “Scotty Heat” .50 Cal  on a whole shot win first round with a .050 light and hit the finish line at 290MPH. After a quick turnaround we got back on the track, but this time for a meet and greet with fans! It was amazing to see everyone from adults to kids that stuck it out with all us racers all day long in between the rain showers! For those who were there and reading this now – THANK YOU! Summit Motorsports Park is far from home but there is something about the fans here that make it feel like home. Seeing the same fans who show up each year to the Cavalcade & Night Under Fire truly make it eel like you are just going over a friends house to visit & catch up. The Last pass of the night, the QOD beat the .50 Cal Jet Dragster on a whole shot win for the second time of the night! “Scotty Heat” is a great driver with a fast car, anytime I get to race him I know what I am up against, but to turn a win light on against him brings it to a whole other level. This was the first year I have won each round at the Cavalcade of Stars!

I have a good feeling about this year…
