Two weeks of being on the road has taken us to Ohio, Michigan and back to Ohio! First stop on our tour was Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH. Friday Night – June 22nd I was expected to make the final pass at NHRA’s Summit Racing Equipment’s National Event. I was really pumped up for this event not only because it was a chance to play with the big boys, (the NHRA Pros) but it was also my chance to face-off with my teammate Rich Hanna. I have yet to match up against my teammates, merely because the two funny cars always race one another and I will typically race another Jet Dragster. Unfortunately, Mother Nature was not interested in this epic team match up because we were rained out, and this match up would have to take a raincheck. On the upside, I was able to catch up with other drivers, and even talk with Alan Reinhart [the voice of the NHRA] over Summit Motorsports Park’s famous 1lb of ice cream for $1!
The very next day, Ohio was in our review mirror as we headed north bound to Martin Michigan! This was my first venture out to US 131 Motorsports Park! Night of Fire was nothing short of rain, heat, humidity, and eventually FIRE with two solid passes down the track. First round was a single at 5.45 @ 291 MPH. Excitement came with the second round when Hot Blade Jet Dragster, driven by Al Zee appeared in the staging lanes. While Al was a late for the race, he bowed out early on the line with a red light. He was disqualified before the race began. The QOD blazed to the finish line at 5.39 @ 295MPH! Throughout the day, I had the opportunity to finally meet Melinda Russell, the CEO of International Women’s Motorsports Association. She came out to see first hand what she wrote about back in December when I was featured in the IWMA magazine, but this was our first time meeting in person. Together we did a quick Facebook Live which you can check out at either my Facebook page or IWMA’s Facebook page.
