Stamford, CT. (July 24, 2019): This past weekend, Sarah Edwards of Sarah Edwards Racing had a unique experience. The former Queen of Diamonds II Jet Dragster pilot for Hanna Motorsports was invited to attend the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at their Northeast Grand Prix event at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, CT.

Despite feeling like a 100-plus degrees outside, Edwards and her boyfriend Stephen Frycz attended her first event at Lime Rock on Saturday, July 20th. In addition, this was her first SportsCar experience.

“I have lived at a race track over the course of the past three years, and Saturday was one of the hottest days I have ever endured,” Edwards said. “But it was an experience you couldn’t beat! Left, right, hills and valleys, Lime Rock had it all with fans around every bend. It was a totally different setting than an NHRA drag race, but the heat and passion of racing was all the same.”

“It was incredible to walk into a totally different world of racing and see how their operation unfolds and operates. At the end of the day, going straight is still my fancy.”

Through Edwards’ previous role in the Jet Dragster, she was able to meet Hope Weaver, who previously worked at New England Dragway & Motorsports Park, who invited Edwards to the event. Weaver — who has since left her post — was previously the IMSA’s Marketing and Corporate Partnership Intern.

While at the track, Edwards received VIP treatment and even got to meet Bobby Rahal, who is a former IMSA GT driver. Plus, she got to partake in a lap around the course in a Lexus.

“I walked up to Bobby Rahal and asked him for a photo together, and when he agreed, I took the opportunity to let him know that I was a big fan of his daughter-in-law (Courtney Force, former NHRA Funny Car pilot for John Force Racing, who retired from the sport in January). He responded, “I am too.”

Chip Ganassi Racing drivers Richard Westbrook and Ryan Briscoe won the event at the 1.521 mile facility. Briscoe and Westbrook won by 7.003 seconds over Earl Bamber and Laurens Vanthoor, who finished second in their Porsche ride.
