Wait, what day of the week is it? Saturday? Wednesday? – It is all the same when you know you get to strap into your race car! Unfortunately, the original date for the Atco Thrill Show of Saturday June 2nd was postponed due to some ugly weather hitting the area. But no worries, Wednesday was around the corner and the show went on! For anyone who knows me, you know that going to Atco Dragway in NJ is like going home. Atco was where I began racing, learned a lot, and learned the importance of cutting a good light. Track owners – the Capone family, their staff and their racers were all key components in my drag racing story and seeing them once a year provides a sense of a homecoming.
Tom Dauber drilling me about my reaction times will always be in the forefront and they are certainly paying off! I faced off with Ernie Bogue driver of the Beast from the East Jet Dragster for both rounds. Both wins came with a whole shot and flying to the finish line first at 299 MPH!
There is a genuine vibe to what drivers do aside from driving these mean fire-breathing machines and that is interacting with fans. I look forward to each and every event more so for the fans & friends that we see that one time a year. At Atco, a little girl with the most adorable pick-tales and sunglasses came over to me back in 2016 by the name of Lainey. Lainey comes each year to the thrill show and comes over to get her picture, autograph and of course a hug.
